Council/Scientific Council/Board of Trustees minutes, 1876-1970.

Minutes of the Council, the scientific arm of the Academy, who, along with the Board of Trustees representing the financial interests of the Academy, operated the organization. The two joined forces in the 1960s to form the Board of Governors. Reports of the many committees and sections are included as well as lists of nominations for fellowship and membership, 1876-1969. Also, minutes of the Scientific Council, 1959-1968; minutes of special committees, 1951-1970; correspondence regarding policy decisions, plans for programs, notices of Council meetings, and related subjects; and correspondence with many major New York scientific institutions whose staff were members of the Academy or held official posts. Institutions include the American Museum of Natural History, Columbia University, and the New York Botanical Garden.
